Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare to undertake seam sealing
  • Identify seam sealing requirements from maintenance documentation and enterprise procedures
  • Identify materials and tools for seam sealing using enterprise procedures, process specifications and maintenance publications
  • Match aircraft or component identification to the correct maintenance documentation
       
Element: Prepare seams for application of sealant
  • Identify and comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements and check personal protective equipment (PPE) for correct fit and function
  • Assemble materials and tools required for sealant application in accordance with identified requirements
  • Apply masking accordance with enterprise procedures or process specifications
  • Prepare seams for sealant application in accordance with enterprise procedures or process specifications
  • Establish environment in accordance with enterprise procedures and/or process specifications
  • Mix required sealant in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications while observing all relevant WHS requirements, including the use of material safety datasheets (MSDSs) and items of PPE

  • Apply sealant in accordance with enterprise procedures or process specifications while observing all relevant WHS requirements, including the use of MSDS and items of PPE
  • Inspect sealed seam and fill blemishes, voids or gaps in accordance with standard enterprise procedures
  • Remove masking materials are removed in accordance with standard enterprise procedures
  • Dispose of waste or surplus materials in accordance with legislative, regulatory and enterprise procedures
  • Complete documentation in accordance with standard enterprise procedures
  • Leave aircraft or component, equipment and work area in suitable condition for next task in accordance with standard enterprise procedures

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
